The Repair Tool requires 1 sulfur and is effectively mandatory equipment. Prioritize collecting at least 1 sulfur early in the game so you can craft the Repair Tool before your first hull breach.
Sulfur and gold share the Observatory Ruins biome and frequently spawn in the same areas. Plan combined farming runs for both resources to prepare for the Advanced Wiring Kit (1 sulfur + 1 gold) and Strong Acid recipes.
