Subnautica 2 features a diverse ecosystem of alien marine life, from small passive fish to massive leviathan-class predators. Creatures are classified by attitude — aggressive species that actively hunt players, passive fauna that ignore threats, and defensive organisms that attack only when provoked. As the game is in Early Access, new species are expected with each major update. All data on this page reflects the current EA build and is updated within 48 hours of each patch.

About Subnautica 2 Creatures

Subnautica 2 takes place on an alien ocean planet where the aquatic ecosystem is the core gameplay challenge. The creature roster in the Early Access build includes both returning species from the original Subnautica and entirely new organisms designed for the cooperative multiplayer environment. Each creature has a defined behavior archetype — aggressive, passive, or defensive — that determines how it reacts to players and other fauna. Understanding these behaviors is essential for survival, especially in deeper biomes where hostile creatures become more common and more dangerous.

Creature Attitudes Explained

Aggressive creatures actively detect and pursue players within their detection radius. They will chase, attack, and can deal significant damage to both the player and vehicles. Aggressive fauna tends to inhabit deeper and more resource-rich biomes, creating a risk-reward dynamic for exploration.

Passive creatures pose no threat and will not attack under any circumstances. Many passive species serve as food sources or drop useful resources when harvested. They are found throughout all depth ranges and make up the majority of the creature population.

Defensive creatures are neutral by default but will retaliate if the player attacks them or enters their territory. Some defensive species guard specific resources or biome entrances, making them obstacles that require careful navigation or deliberate confrontation.

Finding Creatures on the Map

Every creature with known spawn coordinates is plotted on our interactive map. You can filter by creature type, search by name, and click any marker to jump directly to that creature's detail page. Spawn data is extracted from the game's seeded placement system, so coordinates match the actual in-game locations. Use the depth layer toggle on the map to focus on specific depth ranges — shallow (0–100m), mid (100–300m), or deep (300m+).
