Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the studio behind the original Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. Set on an uncharted alien ocean planet, the game challenges players to explore vast underwater biomes, gather resources, craft equipment, and build habitats while managing oxygen, food, and the constant threat of hostile marine life. The original Subnautica became one of the most acclaimed survival games ever made, praised for its atmospheric world design and sense of discovery — Subnautica 2 aims to build on that foundation with a new world and new mechanics.

The most significant addition in Subnautica 2 is online co-op for up to four players — a first for the series. Players can explore together, share resources, and build collaborative bases, adding a new dimension to the survival experience. Solo play remains fully supported for those who prefer the isolation that defined the original game. The game is also the first in the series built on Unreal Engine 5 (the original used Unity), enabling larger environments, improved underwater lighting and caustic effects, more detailed creature animations, and draw distances that let players see deep into the ocean.

Subnautica 2 entered Early Access on May 14, 2026 at $29.99 USD, with the development team estimating a 2–3 year Early Access period during which new biomes, creatures, story content, and gameplay systems will be added. The game is available on Steam and Epic Games Store for PC, with Xbox support announced. As the most wishlisted game on Steam for over nine months with more than 5 million wishlists, Subnautica 2 is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
